Honneur au vétéran pour ouvrir ce long catalogue de 60 albums. Marshall Allen (Sun Ra Arkestra) aura 101 ans ce 25 mai 2025. Quelle énergie dans son album live et quel casting ! Ça se passait à Philadelphie entre 2022 et 2023.
Présent auprès de Marshall Allen, le saxophoniste James Brandon Lewis présente un nouvel album de son magnifique quartet chez Intakt. Ingrid Laubrock, elle, a posé ses saxophones pour composer les 60 miniatures en duos qui constituent son nouvel album très inventif (label Pyroclastic).
Dans le domaine du jazz-jazz, Craft Recordings poursuit ses rééditions restaurées avec minutie et c’est le Miles Davis de 1954 qu’on retrouve ce mois-ci.
Ce n’est là qu’un aperçu très limité de la diversité des musiques présentées en détails dans cette page : multitude de genres et de styles. C’est bien l’incroyable diversité du jazz.
Un clin d’œil pour finir à une musicienne française qu’on retrouve dans de nombreuses formations aujourd’hui. Je veux parler de la clarinettiste Catherine Delaunay présente dans l’album Puzzle de la contrebassiste Hélène Labarrière (chez JazzDor Séries) mais aussi avec Claude Tchamitchian dans Vortice. Deux albums qui portent haut les qualités du jazz français, donc vivement recommandés.
