Une ribambelle de juillet en version légère avec "seulement" 36 albums. Une belle sélection du solo au grand orchestre qui témoigne à nouveau de la vitalité du jazz dans toute sa diversité.
Olga Amelchenko, Signe Emmeluth, Nicole Glover, Camila Nebbia pour les saxophonistes, Satoko Fujii (avec le groupe Kaze), Dawn Clement (qui chante aussi) pour les pianistes, Cyrille Aimée et Anita Donndorf pour les vocalistes prouvent que le jazz se conjugue toujours plus au féminin. Les musiciennes sont nombreuses aussi à l’intérieur des formations plus ou moins grandes qui figurent dans cette ribambelle estivale.
Du côté des grands orchestres, on trouvera des belles choses comme les ensembles dirigés par John Yao (un instrument à 17 éléments !), Ben Patterson (Mad Scientist Music) et Mark Masters (deux albums ici dont l’un est consacré à la musique de Sam Rivers). Tout cela Outre-Atlantique.
En France, on s’arrêtera, par exemple, sur la réunion de l’ONJ et de l’Ensemble Intercontemporain pour une session de Jeux enregistrée à Châlon-sur-Saône sous la direction de Fred Maurin.
Enfin, si on peut contester les thèses sulfureuses défendues par Gilad Atzmon, il faut bien admettre que le musicien/saxophoniste britannique continue de nous intéresser comme lorsqu’il jouait avec Robert Wyatt. On pourra donc écouter Praying for More Songs to Come avec un solide quartet co-géré.
